Evopod 1:10th scale turbine to be deployed in the Algarve
03/04/2017
Oceanflow has been awarded a contract by the University of the Algarve (UAlg) to lease its 1:10th scale Evopod unit (E1) for trials in the Ria Formosa estuary. UAlg's objectives under their SCORE research programme is to examine the E1 unit in a shallow-water estuarine environment, looking at both the impacts of the turbine on its environment and the effects of the flow conditions on the turbine.
Information about the SCORES project can be found at this link.
The E1 unit was previously tested at Strangford Narrows from 2008 to 2011 working with researchers at Queen's University Belfast (QUB). Oceanflow subsequently built two further trials units of a similar scale for QUB to continue their researches into tidal stream turbine performance aspects (see news item "Trial Units for PerAWat Project").
